langwidere: sherlock holmes and dr. watson, from the recent bbc series (totally going for the kiss)

But am I right in thinking that canon!Holmes also did science as a hobby as well as for his work?
Yes, I think you are. He was so supernaturally curious that he could not be contained by the world of ordinary observations. He had to plunge deeper. (Somehow it all gets back to slash, doesn’t it?)

I do agree about the experiments, though. In addition to the sexiness of a man who knows how to gently handle specimen samples in public, there’s also something way hott about competence, in any field — let alone something as complex and frustrating as "science."

Re ridiculous science: I rather enjoyed this spoof courtesy of Red Dwarf:
I LOLED.
(BUT THAT WOULD ALL LOOK PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD ON CSI: MIAMI, TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH.)

I wonder if he's giving it a reacharound on the steering wheel too.
AND THEN I DIED.
